what a friend we have.

i treasure moments like the one i had this afternoon.
those real moments of clarity. moments of aha. moments of that is so right.

i was out driving with best-friend-ever-mom today.
{buying more supplies for those scripture books}
we were chatting about how the Lord has always been so faithful to us
while we were listening to one of our favorite hymns.
what a friend we have in jesus.
this song is such an unbelievable reminder that
we really have no need to worry about a thing.
because our great friend . . . well He has got the whole world in His hands.
every little care. concern. worry. fear. trial. and tribulation.
He willingly holds in His hands.

and if we would just fold our own hands in prayer.
or lift our hands up to the Lord. loosening our tight grasp on the reigns.
we could be living in such greater moments of peace.
all we need to do is go to the Lord in prayer.

i wanted to share the words to this hymn with you.
in hopes that it gives you hope. assurance. & relief as it did for us today.

what a friend we have in jesus.
all our sins and griefs to bear.
what a privilege to carry.
everything to God in prayer.
o, what peace we often forfeit.
o, what needless pain we bear.
all because we do not carry.
everything to God in prayer.

have we trials and temptations?
is there trouble anywhere?
we should never be discouraged.
take it to the Lord in prayer.
can we find a friend so faithful
who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness.
take it to the Lord in prayer.

are we weak and heavy laden,
cumbered with a load of care?
precious Savior, still our refuge,
take it to the Lord in prayer.
do your friends despise, forsake you?
take it to the Lord in prayer.
in His arms He'll take and shield you;
you will find a solace there.

blessed Savior, thou hast promised,
thou wilt all our burdens bear.
may we ever, Lord, be bringing
all to Thee in earnest prayer.
soon in glory bright unclouded
there will be no need for prayer.
rapture, praise, and endless worship.
will be our sweet portion there.

don't you just love those words? i found such relief in each verse.
i know that i am so guilty of worrying. fearing. fretting.
all the while. i have a gracious God who is asking to take the burden from me.
why do i so quickly forget of this wonderful gift of prayer?
i cannot believe that i have the privilege to exchange my worries in for His peace.

so. incredibly. grateful.
what a friend we have. indeed.
